Borrell Commented on Pelosi's Visit to Taiwan
The head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell spoke about the visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan almost a day after it ended, Teller Report reports.
''There is no reason to use the visit as a pretext for aggressive military activities in the Taiwan Strait.
It is normal and routine for legislators from our countries to travel internationally,'' he tweeted.
Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said that Beijing will definitely take all necessary countermeasures in connection with Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov linked the trip of the chairman of the US House of Representatives to Taiwan with Washington's desire to demonstrate its permissiveness and impunity.
The European Commission later announced the EU's interest in maintaining the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.
