EU to provide 33 million euro grant assistance to Armenia
At Thursday’s Cabinet meeting, the government of Armenia approved two funding agreements signed with the European Commission of the European Union (EU), NEWS.am reports. Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan noted that the respective programs will be funded from the EU budget within the framework of the EU-Armenia 2021-2027 multi-year indicative program. According to him, under the program of the first agreement, it is planned to provide a grant of €10 million toward the establishment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as the implementation of police reforms, migration management, and protection of human rights in Armenia. The next agreement, in which a grant of €23 million is planned, is aimed at the inclusive and resilient socioeconomic recovery and development of Armenia. "Particularly, within the framework of the first component of the program, assistance will be provided to the creation, development of SMEs [(small and medium-sized enterprises)], and recovery of existing businesses in Syunik Province. (...). With the second component of the project, assistance will be provided for the modernization of the social protection system in Armenia (...). (…) targeted assistance will be provided to the initiatives of integration and social-psychological support for people displaced from Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)]," Grigoryan added, in particular.
