French lawmakers call for return to dialogue within OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship
President of the National Assembly of France Yaël Braun-Pivet is calling for a return to dialogue within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group despite Azeri president Ilham Aliyev’s false claims that the Nagorno Karabakh conflict is resolved and that the internationally-mandated Minsk Group is obsolete.
“I think today it is important to return to dialogue between the sides,” Yaël Braun-Pivet said in response to a question from ARMENPRESS during her joint press conference with Armenian Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan. “The Minsk Group is one of the existing platforms for dialogue. Of course it’s not the only one, but it is a very important platform. And today it is very important that each member party to that platform agrees to return to that dialogue. And we, parliamentarians, call for a return to dialogue within the framework of the Minsk Group,” Yaël Braun-Pivet said.
At the same time, she emphasized that this isn’t the only way to return to dialogue. She said that all measures must be tried to end the escalation of the situation.
Speaker Alen Simonyan added that today there is a situation where there are 1-2 other formats which to some extent try to replace the Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship format. “However, nevertheless, we record that Minsk Group Co-Chairs United States and France have numerously said that they are ready and will go for continuous cooperation. Russia has also said that they are ready to discuss issues related to that format’s existence and fate,” Simonyan said.
Simonyan noted that today, at the initiative of France, as well as Russia, there are 1 or 2 formats that are dealing with the same issue, and they aren’t less important. Thus, Speaker Simonyan said that by keeping the Minsk Group issue on the agenda they shouldn’t reduce the existing other formats, including the one formed at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron in Prague.
