The phone conversation of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Japan
On January 31, the Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a phone conversation with Hayashi Yoshimasa, the Foreign Minister of Japan.
During the phone conversation, issues related to regional security and stability were touched upon.
Minister Mirzoyan briefed his Japanese counterpart on the details of the humanitarian crisis resulting from Azerbaijan’s illegal blockade of the Lachin Corridor. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan’s actions are a gross violation of the Trilateral Statement of November 9 and international humanitarian law, and are aimed at subjecting the people of Nagorno-Karabakh to ethnic cleansing.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia highlighted the need for clear steps of the international community aimed at the immediate unblocking of the Lachin Corridor, as well as ensuring the unimpeded humanitarian access of relevant international structures to Nagorno-Karabakh.
Ararat Mirzoyan briefed his counterpart on the latest developments in the normalization process of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan’s maximalist approaches are undermining Armenia’s efforts towards peace.
Issues related to the further expansion of the Armenia-Japan bilateral, as well as multilateral cooperation established on different platforms were also discussed.
Minister Mirzoyan stressed the importance of Japan’s consistent support aimed at capacity building and institutional development in Armenia’s various fields.
