Leyla Yunus Term of Arrest Extended
Nasimi District Court extended the term of arrest of Leyla Yunus, the director of the Institute of Peace and Democracy, Haqqin.az reports. According to the information received she was given 5 more months.
Human rights defender Leyla Yunus and her husband Arif Yunus have been arrested on 30 July 2014. She is accused of state treason, large-scale fraud, forgery, tax evasion, and illegal business. Though the Azerbaijani authorities do not name it like that, Leyla Yunus is a political prisoner and the real reason for her to be arrested was that she was actively implementing projects aimed at overcoming the hostility and holding the dialogue of Azeris and Armenians.
