EU-US Trade Deal: TTIP

The European Parliament is working on its position on the EU-US trade deal, which is known as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). There is deadline for the MEPs to vote on the EP’s position before summer. Members of European Parliament warned that they would not approve the agreement unless examining in details all the issues such as food standards, is written in the official website of the European Parliament.

There is a misunderstanding and misrepresenting of some issues over the deal. The deal faces opposition across Europe; UK has fears that the deal can open the NHS (Carriage of Hazardous and Noxious Substances by Sea - 2010 HNS Convention) to privatization of services. The European Parliament called on the Government to estimate overall economic benefits and risks for different sectors before having any agreement. The Parliament also want to be sure that public services will be protected, BBC reports.

Furthermore the Business, Innovation and Skills committee, as the Guardian reports, demands that the government needs stronger evidence to back up its claim that the TTIP would bring a boost of £100 billion a year to the UK.  Both sides - the EU and US work hard in order to reach the final deal by the end of the year.

There is a big uncertainty whether Europe will have economic gains from TTIP or it has to spend much in order to cover the losses and damages towards economic and social systems. The European side wants the government to ensure the protection of public services not only at present, but also give them right to extend and develop in the future. According to PMs, Government needs to go step by step in estimation of all sectors.
