Will the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Come to an End?

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who recently called on the Palestinian side to restart the negotiations, is ready to establish a Palestinian state, the international media reports.

"Tell the Palestinians to stop the delegitimation of Israel. Tell them to come back to the negotiation table. Tell that such negotiations should take place without any preconditionsʺ, - asked Netanyahu German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier during their meeting in Jerusalem.

The Israeli–Palestinian conflict is a long-lasting conflict between Israeli and Palestinian people, which started during the 20th century. This conflict is considered to be the main part of the much wider Arab–Israeli conflict, which, in its turn, is often referred to as "the most intractable conflict" of the world.

Many attempts have been made thoughout this time to reach a proper solution, involving the creation of an independent Palestinian state alongside the State of Israel. This two-state solution is the best way out of this violent conflict according to many experts and analysts, but the matter is that there is a mutual distrust and reciprocal scepticism between the sides on such basic issues like security and borders, water rights, Israeli settlements, Palestinian freedom of movement, control of Jerusalem, resolving Palestinian claims of the right of return for their refugees etc.

As for Israel's prime minister’s declarations on the issue of Palestinian recognition, we can’t but notice that they are distinguished for their volatility. Experts consider it to be absurd that Netanyahu changes his mind within just a few days. At the beginning of March, for example, he declared that as long as he was a prime minister, creating a Palestinian state was out of question. Then, some days later, on the contrary, he promised to recognize Palestine in case of a genuine dialogue between the sides.

However, let’s hope that Israeli prime minister won’t change his mind anymore and will stick to the idea that this long-lasting conflict should be resolved eventually, thus contributing to the peace building in this very tense and hostile region.
