Armenia to Increase Its Participation in the UN Peacekeeping Missions

The delegation of the Armenian Defense Ministry led by Deputy Minister Davit Tonoyan on July 27-31 will be in the US. As "Armenpress" reports from the Department of Information and Public Relations of the Armenian Defense Ministry, on July 27 the Deputy Minister Davit Tonoyan and the RA permanent representative to the UN Zohrab Mnatsakanyan at the UN Headquarter met with the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Rule of Law and Security Institutions Dmitry Titov and the chief of Staff of the United Nations, Brigadier General Ahmed Mohammed.

During the meetings the sides discussed the UN peacekeeping mission and the participation of Armenian officers and peacekeeping troops in it as military observers and staff officers. Deputy Defense Minister of Armenia David Tonoyan said that Armenia will continue to actively participate in ensuring international security and increase its participation in the UN peacekeeping missions.

The UN officials praised the service of peacekeeping units in Armenia as part of UNIFIL, stressing that the United Nations needs them in peacekeeping operations. The sides also discussed other issues of mutual interest.

The Armenian delegation will take part in regular meetings and meetings with the Department of Defense, the State Department and with representatives of the Security Council of the United States.
