12 Academics Detained in Turkey

On Friday the Turkish police carried out an operation detaining 12 of 21 scholars signing a petition calling for cessation of military operation in the southeast of the country, Sputnik News reports referring to Hurriyet.
According to the source investigation against these 21 academics is already launched.
The Academics for Peace petition has been signed by 1,128 local and international scientists. In his speech on Tuesday, Turkish President Erdogan referred to the signatories as to "poor excuses for intellectuals."
