Zika Virus Spreads in China

The tenth Zika virus case has been confirmed in China’s southern Guangdong province, TASS reports, referring to China Central Television (CCTV).

A 40-year-old resident of the province was infected with the virus. Earlier his two children were confirmed to have been infected with Zika.  

 It should be noted that the virus, transmitted to people primarily through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito, causes high temperature, pink eye, headaches and malaise, joint pains, sometimes nausea and stomach pains.

The virus is mainly dangerous for pregnant women, whose children risk developing brain-damaging microcephaly, which is  a condition where a baby’s head is much smaller than expected.
