Turkish Authorities No Longer have the Right to Speak on Behalf of the Turkish Nation
The Turkish President’s Administration declared that Turkey will never recognize the Armenian Genocide. This was reported by Trend agency. For this reason, Ankara does not give any importance to the European Parliament's call to recognize the Armenian Genocide, said the administration of Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
It should be recalled that in the European Parliament's progress reports of Turkey released on April 14, the EP called on Ankara to normalize relations with Armenia. The European Parliament, recalling its resolution of April 15, 2015 on the "Announcement of April 24 in the European Union as the Day of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide", called on Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
MEPs also pointed out that the reforms in Turkey not only slowed, but the situation with the freedom of speech and independence of the judiciary has worsened.
The Turkish press called this document as the most severe European Parliament report on Turkey. This report has raised a real hysteria among the Turkish authorities.
The first, who responded to the report, was the Minister of Turkey for EU Affairs Volkan Bozkır, who said that Turkey would not accept the report, because it mentions the Armenian Genocide issue and returned it, as it was done last year.
Then the President of Turkey said that the European Parliament's report is a provocation, recalling that the EU and Turkey are cooperating on the issue of refugees. Turkey, recalling its role for Europe in the refugee issue, once again is trying to extort new concessions from the EU.
Rejecting the demand for recognition of the Armenian Genocide more than 100 years after the Genocide, the administration of the President of Turkey does not consider one very important fact. The significant part of the society has long accepted this fact. In the recent years, thousands of people go to streets to honor the memory of 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide. Turkish authorities no longer represent the views of the Turkish people in the issue of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and respectively, they no longer have the right to speak on behalf of the Turkish people.
