Over The Past Year a Number of Countries have Recognized the Armenian Genocide
As a part of a number of actions to increase awareness about the Armenian Genocide in the context of its 100th anniversary, it should be noted that the 2015-2016 year has been quite active in terms of Genocide's recognition.
At the Parliamentary level, in 2015 the Armenian Genocide was recognized on May 27 by the Brazilian Senate, on May 13 the Senate of Canada reiterated its recognition of the Armenian Genocide. On May 6 the legislative body of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Chamber of Deputies adopted a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide. On April 22 Austria's parliament recognized and condemned the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
On April 9, the House of Representatives of the Dutch Parliament with the majority of the votes adopted a resolution, which expresses the hope that the commemorative events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide will bring their contribution in Netherlands and elsewhere to the formation of acceptance and respect between the involved communities. It was also entrusted to the government in line with the Raufut decision adopted by consensus in 2004, bilaterally and in the context of the EU to continue to urge Turkey's Government to give new impetus to rapprochement with Armenia and to seek reconciliation with Armenia's Government.
On April 14, with overwhelming majority the Chilean Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament adopted a resolution on the condemnation of the Armenian Genocide. On April 14, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament unanimously adopted a resolution marking the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, condemning the denial of genocides.
During April 15th's session in Brussels, the European Parliament adopted a resolution agreed upon and negotiated by all political groups, specifically dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
On April 8, the parliament of the Brazilian largest state of Sao Paulo adopted a resolution proclaiming April 24 as "Day of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide recognition and the victims." On April 14, the House of Representatives and Senate of the US State of Nevada passed a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide.
On April 22, the Flemish Parliament adopted a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide. On April 24, following a joint statement by the Austrian Parliament adopted on April 22, Vienna's municipal council, which members are also members of the regional parliament of Vienna, adopted a similar decision on recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
The recognition of the Armenian Genocide at the level of local authorities has been quite active in Spain and Italy. Thus, the Armenian Genocide was officially recognized by the Spanish Council of Burjassot town on January 31, on October 27, Aldaia city of Spain's Valencia Region, on December 2, Aragon's autonomous community.
Italy's Provincial Council of Marche on October 6th's session recognized the Armenian Genocide, as well as the Italian Ivrea Province of Piemonte City Council, on October 12, Ravenna on October 22, Abruzzo Province on October 27, and the City Council of L'Aquila on November 26 also recognized the Armenian Genocide.
