Turkey and Russia Do Not Need Aliyev and Lukashenko to Normalize Their Relations

The Presidents of Azerbaijan and Belarus will take the role of mediator to overcome the crisis between Russia and Turkey, ermenihaber reports, citing Turkish opposition "Bir Gün" newspaper.

"Due to their failed foreign policy Turkish authorities are becoming more isolated in the international arena. After Egypt and Israel they are going to make a sharp turn towards Moscow. There are rumors that Turkish Presideent Tayyip Erdogan has asked Ilham Aliyev and Alexander Lukashenko to promote Russian-Turkish normalization process."

In reality Belarus and Azerbaijan have appeared in a difficult situation as a result of the crisis between Russian and Turkey. They both try to avoid any problems and maintain balance in their relations with Russia and Turkey.

Talks about their mediation have especially intensified in November 2015 when Aliyev visited Minsk. It was an unplanned visit and analysts said the main topic of their conversation has to be the crisis between Russia and Turkey, as well as the role they can play in such a situation.

However, the news that Erdogan has asked Aliyev and Lukashenko to mediate between him and Putin seems to be quite controversial.

Of course, Aliyev and Lukashenko would be happy to take such a role if there was an opportunity.

But it is still a question whether Russia and Turkey need their mediation. The most important thing in their reconciliation is probably the existence of political will rather than the mediation of Aliyev and Lukashenko.
