Peace Process Architecture: Lessons from Transnistria and Cyprus
It is already the second time a training-seminar is being organized in Armenia on conflict resolution for representatives of different state structures in Armenia. From July 9-12 training-seminar on "Peace Process Architecture: Lessons Learned from Transdniestrian Conflict Resolution and Cyprus Case" took place in Tsakhkadzor town.
As lecturers, people were invited, who directly took part in negotiations on the conflict resolution: a negotiator from the Republic of Moldova engaged in the Transdniestrian conflict resolution process, Ambassador Vasile Sova and Prof. Ahmet SÖZEN, a participant in negotiations on Cyprus conflict resolution. During the four days the participants of the seminar, together with the mentioned people, as well as with Dr. of Political Science Christalla Yakinthou , studied different aspects and details of the two conflicts - different in nature, but with the same pain for the people, whom these conflicts have touched. In this regard it is interesting that in the context of the two conflicts interests of external actors, geopolitical players were also considered, that very often determine the process of conflict resolution.
Mapping of the conflicts, presentation of the theoretical knowledge, skills on identifications of needs and interest in conflict zones, presentation of the details of negotiations and information on conducting negotiations from "the first hands", back view on the history and suggestions on the resolution of conflicts in Cyprus and Transdniestrian – all these enriched not only participants of the seminar, but also the experts, who were in close cooperation throughout the whole time of seminar.
Representatives of the Administration of the RA President, the RA National Assembly, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Ministry for International Economic Integration and Reform, the RA Police were taking part in the training-seminar.
The training-seminar was organized by the Crisis Management Initiative (CMI) together with its partner NGO "European Integration" in the framework of the project "The European Partnership for the Peaceful Settlement of the Conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh".
