Europe is Losing Its Tolerance

Laurent Cipriani/AP

A series of terrorist attacks that occurred during the last month in Europe, threatens to create serious changes not only in Brusels' but also in European countries’ policies. Thus, in 2017 in some European countries, which comprise 40 % of the European economy,  parliamentary or presidential elections are going to be held. According to analysts, there is a high probability, that as the result of elections nationalist forces will win. The rating of nationalist forces is growing, which is associated with the increasing threat of terrorism to national security.

It should be mentioned that during the last 2 years 18 terrorist attacks occurred in Europe, in the result of which 443 people were killed, meanwhile 172 of them were killed during this year. Acts of terrorism  were carried out by the migrants mainly from Middle Eastern countries, which increases the dissatisfaction of European society especially from the migration policy of the European states. In this context, the European tolerance towards the Islam adherents also decreases, moreover it extends not only on newly arrived migrants, but also on those Muslims that have been the residends of EU for a long time.

As The Telegraph reports, in countries that are more tolerant towards the muslims, such as Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, muslims are accused principally for not being integrated in the european society and for good treatment towards the terrorists. According to The Telegraph, during a year, in Great Britain, the negative treatment towards the Muslims increased by 9 %, in Spain and Italy by 8% and in Greece by 12%.

Taking into account the Pew Research Center’s information, 59% of Europeans are sure that in their countries providing asylum to Muslim migrants increases the risk of terrorism, as well as damages the economy. There is a negative treatment towards muslims mostly in Hungary (72%), in Italy (69%) , in Poland (69%) and in Greece (65%).

In such conditions, in the EU's two most important countries - Germany and France, elections are scheduled for 2017, where existing authorities, according to some experts have already lost the elections. Hollande’s and Merkel's ratings decrease to the minimum due to the migration policy. Despite that, Merkel stated last week that she didn't intend to change the migration policy and the official Berlin  will continue to accept "terrorists" from Middle Eastern countries. Meanwhile, Merkel's statement was disappointing not only for the Germans, but also for citizens of other EU countries as de facto the Chancellor of Germany is the  EU's "first violin" and by her initiative  "open door" policy for migrants is being conducted.

Thus, the elections of  2017 in Europe can be considered as a specific referendum for the political stability of united Europe.
