Cavusoglu Forgot Important Details in His Statement

The PACE Autumn session also did not bypass the topic of Karabakh conflict and many used the given opportunity to once again voice their opinions, views and concerns on some issues of it. The recent most remarkable statement was made by the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, when he referred to the issue of Karabakh conflict and Armenian-Turkish relations.

In regard with Karabakh conflict Cavusoglu particularly said as if the questions of the withdrawal of Armenian forces from Karabakh and the return of 5 regions are on the agenda and if such steps are carried out, Turkey is ready to support any decision, which Azerbaijan will support.

In this regard several factors should be mentioned:

First, despite the fact that Turkey is a member of the Minsk Group, it can in no way intervene in the work of the MG Co-Chairs or has its participation in making any decision on Karabakh conflict settlement process.

Second, indirectly, in some cases also directly (the fresh example is the participation of Turkish special subdivisions in April four day war) the involvement of Turkey in Karabakh conflict, one-sided statements of Turkish officials including hatred towards Armenians demonstrate Turkey’s destructive behavior. This, in its turn, at least excludes Turkey’s possible engagement in the work of the MG Co-Chairs.

Third, Turkey, overestimating its role as a Minsk Group member, at the same time trying to demonstrate itself as a brotherly country of Azerbaijan, advises the Co-Chairing countries to work more for the resolution of the conflict, forgetting that in some cases it has had its own participation in the escalation of the conflict.

Thus, it is obvious that Turkey’s statements on Karabakh conflict are another propaganda serving the interests of Azerbaijan.

As for Cavusoglu’s statement that Ankara is trying to normalize relations with Armenia and such an attempt was previously made in Zurich, which, however, did not succeed, Turkish Foreign Minister forgets some important details.

First, the process of signing the Zurich protocols aimed at normalizing Armenian-Turkish relations, which started with "Football diplomacy", was an Armenian initiative.

Second, the process failed because of Turkey for not ratifying the protocols and putting preconditions towards Armenia.

Thus, it should be mentioned that Turkey again used the PACE platform to show its brother Azerbaijan its support and once again to introduce Armenia as a destructive country. Such "games", however, are no more having any influence on the international community, as the reality is obvious for everyone.
