Sibil: I have Good Responses about My "To Lake Van" Song from Several Turks

"Armedia" IAA presents an exclusive interview with Istanbul Armenian singer Sibil Pektorosoglu , who recently released her new video shot on the basis of "To Lake Van" song.

Your "To Lake Van" video has been released only recently, but it already has quite big response. What are the main idea and the message of the song to the world?

- "To Lake Van" song is a talk with the symbol of historical homeland, as well as it is the expression of the emotions of worldwide Armenians towards their homeland. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary a film has been shot about Lake Van, in which you can hear this song as well.

I personally expressed willingness to shoot a video for this song. "To Lake Van" song has a wonderful melody and words that come deep from my heart. Thus I decided to make it more available through a video. The author of the song is Hasmik Hakhverdyan, the producer is Andre Simonian and the director is Mariam Gevorgyan. This is my 4th video.

You were born and still live in Istanbul. As an Armenian living in Turkey, what difficulties do you face in your work? How did you manage to so perfectly preserve your identity as a real Armenian?

- The main difficulty is that my videos are not that easily being allowed to be shown in Turkey, but I have quite good response from the Turkish society. I already have good responses about my "To Lake Van" song from several Turks and I am very glad about it. "We admired with your voice, your song and the video even without understanding a single word…" a Turk wrote. I hope that this song will become even more available.

As for the question how I was able to preserve my identity, I should mention that it is due to my patriot and Armenian-speaking family. I am very happy that today I can speak, read and write in Armenian.

What further working plans do you have?

- In the coming days I am leaving for Lebanon. On November 4 I will have a concert in Beirut. There are also other suggestions for concerts, I also have some surprises for my fans. I hope that all these will become a reality and I will share them with you with great pleasure.
