Unusual Vehicles of the World Politicians
London police banned the UK Foreign Minister Boris Johnson to go to work by bike for security reasons. Johnson used to go everywhere by bike, when he was the mayor of London and the Police ban, according to friends of politicians, disappointed him.
It should be noted, however, that Johnson isn't the only politician who does not go to work by official vehicle. South Korean former President Lee Myung-bak used to move exclusively by bike to become an example for the citizens to abandon car driving and thereby contribute to the reduction of air pollution. Ex-mayor of New York, billionaire Michael Bloomberg, used to go to the work on the subway. Riga Mayor goes to work by bike.
In 2005 some members of the Latvian Cabinet of Ministers decided to refuse for some time the use of official cars. This decision was dictated by the ministerial protest against the fuel crisis that arose in the Baltic States
Of course, not all senior officials, and especially leaders can afford themselves to be "men of the people" because of security reasons. However, some politicians sometimes manage to take anything for granted. Former President of Switzerland, Didier Burkhalter, was noticed waiting for the train with no bodyguards. British Ex-Prime Minister David Cameron was also was noticed using public transport with his wife Samantha Cameron carrying their baggage and using the train. David Cameron also used to make economy class flights in his foreign visits: he only got to use his £10 million plane once before resigning as Prime Minister.
As for the Armenian officials, the newly appointed Deputy Minister of Health goes to work by bike, and the Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan was once seen in the metro.
