Team Representing Stepanakert Participated in "КВН-2017" in Sochi: Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's Efforts Failed

"Bread and salt" team from Stepanakert performing at Sochi "КВН-2017" international festival received very high scores on January 13. This was told by Georgi Avetisyan to "Armedia" IAA. According to him, it will be an opportunity to play in one of the Central Leagues. "It is still to be decided during which league season to play this year," he noted.

One can already say with confidence that work of the team is accompanied by "PR actions" by the Azerbaijani side, and not only by the media but also by the authorities. It should be noted that  Stepanakert's participation in ''КВН-2017'' Baku presented as a provocation against Azerbaijan. Hikmet Hajiyev, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman even said that inviting the Karabakh team contradicted the partnership between Azerbaijan with Russia. Festival organizers deny this kind of critics. "No team participates in КВН from Unrecognized Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh. КВН has always been out of politics and against stirring up ethnic conflicts, "said Alexander Maslyakov, the representative of КВН. Georgi Avetisyan in turn explained that the team was just from the city of Stepanakert.

In any case, in spite of the efforts made by Azerbaijani media and Foreign Ministry, the team did perform in Sochi. In this regard, the Azerbaijani mass media raised hysteria about the Azerbaijani team participating in the festival, which performed on the same stage as NKR.

It should be noted that this was Stepanakert team's third participation in the international festival. The team has performed under other names before.
