In Brussels the RA President Made Certain Clarifications in Armenia's Stance on Karabakh Conflict: Karen Bekaryan
During the meetings in the framework of the RA President Serzh Sargsyan’s visit to Brussels certain clarifications and even toughening of the wording was noticed in the stance of Armenia when referring to Karabakh conflict.
This was declared by the RA NA Deputy, the Chairman of NGO "European Integration" Karen Bekaryan, stressing that in Brussels nothing was said for the first time, that those issues have also been raised through diplomatic channels, but talking about them once again in Brussels helped to make those issues become more perceivable for the European partners and through them for the European society. Karen Bekaryan especially stressed the following:
"The President in Brussels referred to the April war, but not only about it as a fact, but also to the conditions that made April war possible and to which the international community had opportunities to respond more toughly, to have a preventive role, but this did not happen. Today also we have a situation that the non-consolidation of the international community, not giving a joint response and not taking any preventive actions does not exclude another phase of escalation," the Deputy said.
The second issue, according to Karen Bekaryan, that Serzh Sargsyan clarified during his visit to Brussels was that allegedly Armenian sides want to preserve the status-quo – something that Azerbaijan always declares. "The President gave quite a substantive response to this issue based on two main elements. First, when there is an escalation of situation and there are threats to the lives of people, on the borders there are wounded and killed soldiers, it is not logical to have effective negotiations, increase of trust and political settlement process. Here it is important to mention that with April war and with the current escalations, Azerbaijan draws back the political settlement process. In addition it continues refusing the reached agreements. The second, to which I attach great importance was that President made it clear that if Azerbaijan wants to change the status-quo, the possible way for it is recognizing the independence of Artsakh, its right to self-determination. That is to say, the false illusions of Azerbaijan that with the escalation on the borders, with taking away human lives and with humanitarian disasters it can get certain dividends both from the Armenian sides and the international community, which, however, does not work and Armenia will not yield to it," Bekaryan mentioned.
He also noted that in the his meetings in Brussels the RA President also declared that if the moment comes, the Republic of Armenia, as NKR’s guarantor of security, will not feel restrained in using its whole arsenal. The Deputy stressed that this was not only a message sent to the European partners and the society, but also a message directed towards Azerbaijan, the co-chairing countries and the mediators.
