11,000 $ Will Be Given to the Family of the Killed Armenian Soldier of the Turkish Army
A Turkish court ruled to pay Sevag Balıkçı’s family (ethnic Armenian soldier of the Turkish Army who was murdered on April 24, 2011) compensation of around 11 thousand dollars.
Istanbul’s Armenian ''Agos'' newspaper reported the amount is ridiculou, Tert.am reports.
The family’s attorney said that they have appealed against the verdict to the Court of Appeals.
Sevag Balıkçı was shot dead in the Turkish army on April 24, 2011, only 23 days short from being demobilized.
According to Turkish authorities, Sevag was shot dead by his co-serviceman, by an "unintentional discharge".
Despite their claims that Sevag Balıkçı’s death is the result of an accident, Sevag's parents believe the murder happened on ethnic grounds; their son was killed for being an Armenian.
