Armenian-Indian Cooperation Enters a New Stage

eabff

Armenia and India have decided to give new impetus to friendly relations between the two countries: the Indian First Vice President M. Hamid Ansari's official visit to Armenia pursued this goal. Despite the fact that during the high level talks the issues of the development of political dialogue between the two countries, regional and international issues were also discussed, the Indian side is obviously interested in deepening economic cooperation.

"India has capacities and is ready to share them with Armenia," Ansari stressed during the meeting with the Armenian MP Karen Karapetyan. According to him, today Armenia gained importance with its associated relations with the north, west and east and India attaches great importance to bilateral cooperation in different directions. The Prime Minister in his turn said that Yerevan is ready to provide favorable conditions for Indian companies to do business in Armenia. Karen Karapetyan proposed to increase the effectiveness of economic cooperation in targeted two areas: transfer of technology and agriculture. "The important thing is that Indian business has the capacity and willingness to invest out of India. We closely monitor and help to find new opportunities of cooperation in broader fields between India and Armenia," Hamid Ansari said, considering the possibility of attracting Indian capital to the free economic zone in Meghri.

The visit of the First Vice President of India from the regional countries only to Armenia, which was the first visit at this level since 2005, indicates that the country is interested in carrying quick and cheap transportation through Armenia to Russia and the European countries in the framework of the New Silk road, proposed by China. Of course, Azerbaijan can also continue to implement this program, but because of some political differences, particularly the friendly character of relations with Pakistan, the Indian side does not have much confidence towards Baku.

The intention of the parties on deepening bilateral cooperation demonstrates the invitation of the President of India Pranab Kumar Mukherjee's to the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan' to pay an official visit to India and discuss the perspectives of deepening the Armenian-Indian relations and the agenda of cooperation.
