RA President Received the Delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the EP
On May 26, The RA President Serzh Sargsyan received delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament headed by the Chair of the Committee David McAllister. The delegation has arrived to Armenia in the framework of a regional visit. At the meeting, the parties spoke about the Armenia-EU bilateral agenda, important and current issues of Armenia’s internal and foreign policy, as well as about regional issues and challenges, the press service of the RA President informs.
The President of Armenia noted with satisfaction that in recent years, Armenia has registered significant progress in the relations with the European Union. Serzh Sargsyan underscored that our country is willing and ready to expand the existing partnership with the EU in all possible areas. According to the President, the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement and priorities of cooperation set for years 2017-2020 are critical guidelines for the expansion of the bilateral cooperation, and mutual commitments reflected there will give a new impetus also to Armenia’s political and economic large-scale reformation.
In the development of the Armenia-EU relations, the President highlighted the role of the interparliamentary relations and stressed the importance of frequent contacts with the parliamentarians.
Taking the opportunity, President Sargsyan congratulated David McAllister on assuming the responsible position of the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament and wished him success.
David McAllister thanked the President of Armenia for the meeting and congratulations, and in his turn underscored that the European Parliament attaches great importance to the relations with the countries of the region and is interested in the strengthening of democracy, stability, and peace in the region.
At the meeting, President Sargsyan responded also to the questions raised by the members of the delegation of the European Parliament which were related to Armenia’s domestic and foreign policy, Armenia’s relations with the neighboring states, regional issues, and the NK peace process.
