Armenian chess player Levon Aronian after the first game day of the second round of the Grand Chess Tour series in Leuven (Belgium) takes the penultimate, 9th place.
In the tournament 10 grandmasters play one round in Rapid (June 28-30) and two rounds in blitz (July 1-2), Novosti-Armenia reports.
After last three rounds on Wednesday the leader in Rapid is American Wesley So with 5 points, 2-3 places are shared by the Russian Yan Nepomnyaschy and Frenchman Maxime Vachier-Lagrave - 4 points each.
4-8 lines are occupied by Magnus Carlsen (Norway), Anish Giri (Netherlands), Viswanathan Anand (India), Vasily Ivanchuk (Ukraine) and Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) with 3 points each.
Aronian has 2 points, and the representative of Georgia Baadur Jobava closes the standings with zero result.
According to the rules, in Rapid 2 points are awarded for victory, 1 point for a draw, in a blitz - for victory 1, for a draw - 0.5 points. The total prize fund of the tournament is 150 thousand dollars.
