Turkish Expert: Turkish Authorities Are to Be Blamed for the Unexpected Flood
Washington Post
The chaotic situation created by the unexpected flood in Istanbul yesterday and its consequences has caused many questions to both among residents, scholars and journalists, Tert.am reports, referring to gazeteduvar.com.tr.
Turkish architect Kuman Gumus claims that the new urban development efforts by the authorities, cutting trees and covering the sandy beaches are the main causes of the catastrophe.
"Was the catastrophic situation caused only by nature. Can anyone call it a natural disaster? The answer is definitely ‘no’", said the expert.
The expert also pointed out that during the recent flood mainly the newly built tunnels and streets were destroyed, whereas older structures remained safe.
