"Censorship" in Ukrainian Way

© РИА Новости / Стрингер

Arsen Avakov, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, has called the radicals to abolish the blockade of the NewsOne TV Chanell’s building in Kiev, and the owner of the TV Channel to ’’stop the provocation of people’’. ’’State police will adopt a decision… in the framework of its powers’’, Avakov wrote on his Twitter.

On December 3, in the evening unknown people blocked the Channel’s building in disagreement with the NewsOne policy. They required the apology of the Channel’s owner, the Ukrain’s Verkhovna Rada MP, Evgeni Muraev for calling the events of 2014 a ’’state coup’’. Besides, the activists also demanded that the TV Channel stops broadcasting Russia’s propaganda. Otherwise, the nationalists threaten to change the peaceful nature of the action (to note, the radicals have lit fire in the Channel’s territory, they are having tea and talking. One of the entrances of the building is open).

Apparently, the Channel administration is not going to give up its policy. ’’The second term, that Poroshenko desires, is possible if all the media stay silent, and the opposition is pressured physically. Otherwise, the regime that has brought the country to crisis will never get the people’s votes’’, wrote Muraev on his Facebook page, calling Ukrainian law enforcement bodies to make appropriate steps to abolish the blockade. According to the Parliament members, the 200 activists that have blockaded the Channel’s building are acting under dictation of official Kiev.

Here, it is important to note that NewsOne was the only TV Channel that was broadcasting on Live Mikhail Saakashvili’s ՛՛March for Impeachment’’ action: the demonstrators had gathered in the streets, demanding Mr. Poroshenko’s impeachment’’.

It should be mentioned that over the past two years this was not the first time, that the activists were trying to exercise ’’censorship’’. Particularly in February, 2016, activists ’’didn’t like’’ the Inter TV Channel’s policy, that according to the activists was anti-Ukrainian. And already in September, 2016, they blockaded the Channel, demanding that the ’’Kremlin agent’’ stopped its existence.
