Kabul's Intercontinental Hotel Under Attack
A number of gunmen have opened fire on guests at the Intercontinental Hotel in western Kabul, according to Afghan officials. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, DW reports.
Armed militants stormed the luxury Intercontinental Hotel in the Afghan capital late Saturday and began shooting at guests, Afghan officials said.
"Four attackers are inside the building," an official at the nation's spy agency told Agence France Presse (AFP).
Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish said security forces had cordoned off the area and were exchanging fire with the assailants, some of whom appeared to be suicide bombers.
"We don't know the details yet but our forces are in the area to bring them down," Danish said, adding that authorities were investigating how the gunmen got past security.
