Armenian PM Meets with Major International Companies’ Leadership in Davos

Today, Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan met with top executives from major international companies on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, official page of the RA Government reports.

Karen Karapetyan’s first meeting was with Hans-Paul Björner, President of Boston Consulting Group, BCG, which is one of the Big Trio companies.

The prospects of cooperation with BCG and BCG Digital Ventures were discussed. Stressing that Armenia could be interesting for the Company as a standalone destination, as well as a platform for dealing with regional markets, Karen Karapetyan noted that being an EAEU member country, Armenia benefits from the GSP+ privileged trade regime of the European Union. At the same time, the Free Economic Zone of Meghri is being established on the border with neighboring Iran, which can open up new opportunities for cooperation. In this context, the interlocutors touched upon the prospective areas of cooperation.

Apart from BCG, the Big Trio incorporates McKinsey and Bain & Company. BCG is currently operating field offices in 50 countries.

The Premier’s next meeting was with VEON Group CEO Jean-Yves Charlier, and Foreign Relations Director Mark MacGann. Karen Karapetyan noted that Armenia highly appreciates the ongoing cooperation with VEON and expressed the hope that the Company would expand its activities and increase investments in Armenia. Touching upon the Government’s Digital Agenda, the interlocutors emphasized its importance for the development of Armenia’s economy.

Pleased with the results of 2017, the representatives of VEON Group said their programs in Armenia would be continued.

"We are optimistic about the future of Armenia and the region, as a whole, and we feel that it is becoming more attractive for foreign investors," Jean-Yves Charlier pointed out and advised that he was going to visit Armenia once again in the near future.
