30 Years Ago: the Song "Veradardzir" and the First Rallies in Artsakh (VIDEO)
The first rallies in the Soviet era ... Those who did not live at that time, will not understand with what distrust, fear, anxiety people went to the first, yet the small-number rally in the main square of Stepanakert, where the monument of Lenin stood. It was on the 13th of February.
At that time no one believed that this small number of people the next morning and then day by day will turn into thousands chanting "Miatsum!", which means reunion. During the period of "glasnost and perestroika", the people of Karabakh believed in the changes and decided to raise the issue of reunification with their mother Armenia. And in that very romantic period of the Karabakh Movement, no one could imagine that in response to the peaceful rallies of the Karabakh people, in which first local Azerbaijanis also participated, Azerbaijan will shed blood...
On the third day of the Karabakh Movement in Stepanakert the song "Veradarzir" ("Come Back") was born, which the composer Irina Pirumyan composed. This song could be heard from all the balconies and open windows, people listened to it and dreamed that soon the Center (Moscow) would make a fair decision about the return of Karabakh to its mother Armenia...
