Armenia Will Be Presented at the Forklife Festival in USA

Armenia will take part in the traditional Smithsonian folklore festival FolkLife, Novosti-Armenia reports.

The festival will be held from 27 June to 4 July 2018 in Washington and is organized by the Smithsonian Institution.

The Armenian government made a decision on Thursday to provide the State Tourism Committee with 49 million drams ($101,800) in order to organize the country's participation in the festival.

"The fundraising is organized by the institution, and it is accepted that in such cases, governments should make a small contribution," said Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Investments of Armenia, Tigran Khachatryan.

Khachatryan said that FolkLife will present the values ​​of Armenian cuisine and handmade products.

"The festival contributes to the growing recognition of the participating country and the growth in the number of tourists, according to statistics, an average of 4.4 million people get an opportunity to get acquainted with the countries represented at the event," the deputy minister said.

According to the Deputy Minister, also the presentation of Armenian-made goods, in particular of wine products, is planned at the festival.

The FolkLife Festival is an international exhibition of cultural heritage that has been held in Washington  since 1967. The festival lasts about two weeks and coincides with the celebration of the US Independence Day on July 4.
