The Warming of Relations between North and South Korea Is a Historic Event

On April 27, North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un and South Korea's President Moon Jae-In held a historic meeting in the village of Panmunjom in the country's demarcation zone. This happened after the DPRK announced on April 21 that it would stop the testing of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles and close the Pong Nuclear Military Base.

Kim Jong-Un was actually North Korea's first leader who crossed the border and went to negotiate with South Korea.

The parties had initially been very positive and optimistic about the negotiations, stating that the two countries thus started a new historical era of peace and prosperity.

The issues discussed during the meeting were about the normalization of relations between the North and the South and the prospects of their reunification. The sides adopted a joint declaration, expressing their intention to decompose the Korean Peninsula, to improve relations for joint development and reunification. Kim Jong-un said that when the war with the US officially ended, it would be meaningless for North Korea to have nuclear weapons. The North's leader expressed readiness to allow inspections of nuclear facilities.

The meeting was welcomed by the United States, Russia, India, Japan, Turkey and Germany, as well as UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the EU, the OSCE, and so on. They all hoped for further positive developments between two Koreas.

The United States President Donald Trump in turn is supposed to meet soon with the leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Kim Jong-Un. Pentagon chief James Mattis said they are ready to withdraw the armed forces from the Korean Peninsula, but the South Korean president is strongly against it.

Besides, it is planned to hold a trilateral summit in the format of the Republic of Korea-DPRK-USA, which, according to the media, will be held in June-July of the current year.

Thus, the warming of relations between the two Koreas after long-lasting tensions is, of course, a historic event that is as delightful as surprising. The international community is convinced that diplomacy can settle any conflict and normalization of relations between the Koreas is an important and courageous step.

The United States is convinced that the warmth of relations between the Koreas and reaching such positive developments was the result of the politics and efforts made by the United States.

The 18 Republican Congressmen of the US House of Representatives officially addressed the Nobel Committee to present President Donald Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts and contribution to the normalization of relations between the Koreas.
