EAFJD Urges the European Institutions to Take Concrete Steps in order to Stop the Xenophobic and Racist Activities of the Turkish Leadership
European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy has condemned the meeting chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during which Turkish high-ranking officials discussed ways to organize a crackdown on the civic activism across the globe that advocates for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
The statement issued by European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy reads:
''The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan chaired a five-hour high-level meeting with his advisory board to discuss how to organize a crackdown on the civic activism across the globe that advocates for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
The Director of Communications of Turkey T.C. İletişim Başkanlığı Fahrettin Altun openly stated that the main goal of the meeting was to elaborate a predefined strategy to promote denialism of the Armenian Genocide and intimidate the activists of the Armenian Cause.
This meeting comes to prove once again that the denial of the Armenian Genocide and Armenophobia are a state policy, scandalously led by the President of Turkey.
The Turkish state thus shows true colours and clearly ignores the calls of the European Parliament and many other parliaments to come to terms with its past. This is how much Erdoğan's Turkey holds of the European Union as a union of values and democracy, human rights in general.
The EAFJD urges the European institutions, including the Council of the European Union, the European Commission, the European Parliament and Council of Europe, to take concrete steps in order to stop the xenophobic and racist activities of the Turkish leadership, which are an extension of domestic crackdown on democracy and nothing less than a state policy of terror and intimidation''.
