Armenian Opposition Must Raise Society’s Awareness of Its Anti-War Agenda – Karen Bekaryan (Tert.am)
The Armenian opposition must give the society the clear knowledge that they are not pursuing a war agenda, political analyst Karen Bekaryan said Monday, warning otherwise of devastating consequences, Tert.am reports.
Commenting on Ilham Aliyev’s "willingness" to discuss the terms of a peace pact with Armenia after the upcoming elections, the expert noted that the move gives the Azerbaijani leader time to consider and clearly express his country’s position on membership in Russia-led supranational structures (EAEU and the Collective Security Treaty Organization).
But Bekaryan agreed that it is not the only cause of the "good will" expressed by the neighboring country’s president.
In his words, the kind of statement enabled Aliyev to cover up the true motives behind his actions. "Not everything begins and ends with a peace agreement. This peace agreement can be approached from the best, worst and medium perspectives. By covering himself up behind constructivism, Aliyev is trying to gain the [maximum] possible against that background, and the document at hand is a clear example of it," he added.
