France’s Macron Calls for Preservation of Nagorno-Karabakh Religious Monuments

French President Emmanuel Macron has stressed the urgency of serious attention to the Christian and Muslim cultural monuments on the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh).

Speaking at a press conference held before his meeting with Armenia’s acting prime minister in Paris, he also affirmed France’s willingness to continue support to the civilians.

"Though the ceasefire is globally being respected, there is still a lot to do in Nagorno-Karabakh. And France is ready to continue its support to the population. I speak of the necessity of releasing all the detained persons, lifting the restrictions on international humanitarian organizations’ acess and the serious problems in mined areas," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

The French leader also called for efforts towards the preservation of cultural heritage.

"Whether Christian or Muslim, that heritage must be preserved," he said. "France, as a co-chair country of the OSCE Minsk Group, must invest all the efforts – in collaboration with the United States and Russia – towards achieving de-escalation and dialogue between the sides."
