Early on Thursday Saudi Arabia has started airstrikes in Yemen the aim of which is to defeat the Houthi rebels, Washington Post reports. These strikes came after Houthis seized an airbase in Aden, This was the city, where the President of Yemen Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi had taken refuge after fleeing Sanaa. As the source reports the President of Yemen has escaped from Aden as well, but his place is unknown.
The military operation was announced Wednesday evening in Washington by Saudi Ambassador Adel al-Jubeir. Though the US is not involved in the operation, it has authorized US forces to provide logistical and intelligence support to the operation.
