Rajoy: Europe Will Not Recognize Catalonia’s Independence

Europe will never recognize Catalonia’s independence in case if it is proclaimed by the local authorities, Spanish PM Mariano Rajoy said on Monday, RIA Novosti reports.

It should be mentioned that according to the document on further steps of Catalonia’s independence signed in late March, in case of the victory of independence supporters, on 27 September an independence process will be set in action. It will last maximum 18 months. "The Roadmap" was signed by the head of Catalonian authonomy Arthur Mas and his "Convergence and union" party and the "Left Republicans" as well as three organizations- Omnium Cultural, National Assembly of Catalonia and Association of municipalities for independence.

The supporters of Catalonian independence plan electing new parliament and proclaiming new elections in 2017.

Mariano Rajoy also announced he will be running for the Prime-minister for the next term with his Popular party.
