President Obama checked the final state off his to-do list with pomp and circumstance on Friday as he delivered the commencement address at a community college here, just a bit off the beaten track, The washington Post reports.
“I have now been to all 50 states as president — and I was saving the best for last,” he told the capacity crowd at Lake Area Technical Institute. “To the other 49, I hope you take no offense.”
Mr. Obama used the visit to promote his proposal to make community college free for millions of students.
The leader of the USA is expected to visit every part of his homeland while President, but it has not happened very often. Barack Obama moved the tally up to 4, joining Richard Nixon, George H.W. Bush, and Bill Clinton on the list.
