Pope Francis Latin American Visit Began

18:42     6 July, 2015

Pope Francis 7-day-visit to the Spanish-speaking part of South America has begun. As Al Jazeera writes, he is here to bring a message of solidarity with the poor in the region.

Pope arrived in Quito on Sunday, where millions of Roman Catholics are expected at mass on Tuesday.

Francis will also visit a violent Bolivian prison, a flood-prone Paraguayan shantytown and will meet with Bolivian rubbish pickers, the sort of people he ministered to in the slums of Buenos Aires as archbishop.
