On Sunday the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon held a series of telephone conversations with the leaders of the EU countries, to discuss with them the migration crisis in Europe and the response to it.
According to the press service of the organization, Ban Ki-moon spoke about the increased xenophobic feelings in response to the influx of migrants from the Middle East and North Africa, and strongly urged the authorities to deal with this problem, TASS reports.
Taking into account the difficulties connected with receiving large numbers of refugees, Ban Ki-moon noted the European leaders on the need to "quickly find a common approach, which will equally distribute the responsibility" for the situation.
