Selahattin Demirtas: AKP Should Use the Slogan ''May God Forgive Me''

Speaking to reporters on September 24  Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtas said that it would be better for the Justice and Development Party (AKP) to use the slogan "Tövbe Estağfurullah" ("May God forgive me") rather than "Bismillah" ("In the name of God") for its upcoming electoral campaign, Hurriyet reports.

It is stated that Turkey’s Supreme Election Board (YSK) has decided to ban the AKP’s planned campaign slogan for the November 1 snap election, explaining that that "Bismillah" is a religious term and thus legally cannot be used for electioneering.
