Armenia, Go Ahead!!!

Summing up the already gone 2015, one wants to remember the good that brought joy to the Armenian people. Sports and victories recorded – this is one of those things that very often unites our people. And even if the victories were not much, they brought lots of joy, pride and great confidence towards our strength.

We are already accustomed to the fact that our wrestlers successfully perform at international arenas. They did not disappoint us this year as well. Our "white bear" Arthur Alexanyan in Las Vegas at the World Championships in Greco-Roman wrestling in the weight category up to 98 kg performed brilliantly, winning the gold medal. This is the second such success of Arthur - last year he won the title of the best wrestler of the world in Tashkent. Our Armenian wrestler is a double world champion!

It's nice to remember the silver medal of Mihran Harutyunyan in Greco-Roman type in the weight category up to 66 kg in the first European games. It is thanks to Mihran, that Armenian flag was raised in Baku.

Another Armenian sportsman Arman Yeremyan won medal in martial arts in the weight category up to 80 kg. He brought Armenia silver at the European Championships Taekwondo - in the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria.

Sportsmen from Artsakh also added to victories of the RA. In Khabarovsk, at the World Championships Kyokushin Karate KWU Arthur Arushanyan from Artsakh, who was representing Armenia at the final stage won the representative of Kazakhstan Vitaly Cech and got the world title in the 60 kg weight category.

Armenian Sambo athletes also won medals in 2015. Tigran Kirakosyan became European champion in sambo in 52 kg weight category in Croatia and vice-world champion in the Moroccan city of Casablanca. And Maxim Manukyan won the bronze medal of the European Championship.

Armenian weightlifters have always been famous for their victories. In Tbilisi, at the European Championships in weightlifting in the 77 kg weight category Armenian sportsman Tigran Martirosyan became the champion of Europe. This is Martirosyan’s third European gold medal.

The success of Armenian gymnasts should also be noted. Yes, there is no gold, but the bronze medal that Harutyun Merdinyan won during the world championship in gymnastics in Glasgow in the exercise on horseback is again a great success for Armenia.

In 2015, the Armenian boxers have pleased the fans not that often. Aram Avakian won bronze medal at the European Championship. But millions of Armenian hearts filled with joy with the victory of "King Arthur." In the arena of Gerry Weber Stadium, Halle, Germany Arthur Abraham won Robert Stieglitz retaining WBO super-middleweight title. Another victory in the heavyweight fight Abraham won in Hannover, winning 33-year-old Briton Martin Murray. And no matter that Arthur does not fight under the flag of Armenia, we all know ... And not just us.

Quite a good surprise was the victory of Armenian sailors Michel Zakarian and Jeremy Ialent, who won gold at the World Championships in sailing in the French city of Karnak. The championship was attended by athletes from 15 countries.

Already being accustomed to the victories of our chess players, we do not take their failures easy. And though this year they failed to win the gold medal, the men's chess team of Armenia became the vice-champion of the European Championship 2015 and won the bronze medal of the world championship - and this is also a good result! The leader of the Armenian team Levon Aronyan won the chess tournament "Cup Sinkfilda", which was held in the US city of St. Louis. Hrant Melkumyan won second place at the European Championship in rapid chess (in slow motion) in Minsk.

And finally about the most popular sport in the world - football. Against the background of unsuccessful performance of our beloved team, we saw the brilliant performances of Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Let’s hope that in the New Year we will also see the goals of the Armenian team. We believe and expect. Every success of the Armenian sportsmen makes us happier. So we wish our sportsmen in the new 2016 more victories! And we wish them peace and health.
