"Armedia" IAA presents an exclusive interview with Harutyun Merdinyan, who in European Artistic Gymnastics Championships was crowned European champion in the pommel horse.

- Was this victory a surprise for you or did you expect such a result?

- I cannot say that it was totally unexpected, because I had already won bronze and silver medals before, and now I just improved my results, winning the gold medal this time, which really made me happy, especially the fact that I did it on the eve of Rio Olympic Games.

- Have you already started the preparations for Rio Olympic Games? What expectations do you have?

- We are now resting for a while, then we will start our trainings again. I will surely try to do my best in Rio. First of all, my performance should please myself and my trainers. The rest will be seen right there.

-  What is your message to our other athletes, who will participate in the Olympics? What is the most important thing in sports, in your opinion?

- Hard work, discipline, and luck in sports, as it is often said, are very important. You also need to be conscientious, attentive and always listen to your coach’s instructions.

- Recently we witnessed many other excellent results from our Armenian athletes. What do you think has contributed to these great victories? What are they connected with?

- Before the Olympics, all the athletes are always more determined and more serious. There’s little time before the Games are launched, and responsibility has grown. I think this is the reason most of our sportsmen showed great results.
