The president of the European Commission Jean Claude Juncker in his annual State of the Union address said the European Union needed a stronger defense system, vidalatinasd.com reports.
Jean Claude Juncker said that along with reinforcing Europol and border security, and creating new information systems, the EU required common military assets.
"Europe can no longer afford to piggyback on the military might of others or let France alone defend its honor in Mali," he said.
He announced that a European Defense Fund would be created before the end of the year to accelerate research and innovation, and that more cooperation was needed between member states.
