A conference on women's rights took place in Trabzon, Turkey, during which the Head of Faculty of Communication Department of Radio and Television of "Giresun" University Hülya Uğur Tanrıöver presented how and when the struggle for women's rights in Turkey has begun, Ermenihaber reports, referring to Turkish ''Günebakış'' news portal.
According to Tanrıöver, the rights of women in the Ottoman period were protected by Armenian women, while Turkish women learned from them to protect their rights.
''We started the fight for our rights until the Republican period. During the Ottoman Empire more women struggled for their rights. Especially Armenian women assumed a major role in this fight."
