Germany will increase its aid for people facing hunger in East Africa by 100 million euros (106.5 million dollars) to 300 million euros, Development Minister Gerd Mueller said Monday in the Ethiopian capital, the Europe Online reports.
"It is a shame how the international community looks on as people die and suffer here," Mueller said.
In Ethiopia alone, 5.6 million people are facing food insecurity.
"I‘m ashamed that pictures of dead and starving children are first needed for it," Mueller said before boarding a plane to the border of Somalia.
More than 6 million people - about half of the Somali population - are facing food insecurity in the Horn of Africa country.
