About 12 thousand houses were destroyed as a result of a powerful earthquake in the west of Iran, where more than 400 people died, RIA Novosti reported.
"About 12,000 residential buildings were destroyed," the IRINN channel writes.
The head of the Iranian organization for cultural heritage and tourism, Ali Asghar Mounessan said earlier that the earthquake damaged several historical sites and monuments.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday visited the province of Kermanshah, where the earthquake occurred, to assess the situation. The Iranian president visited the Sare Polje-Zohab district in particular, where the largest number of victims was recorded.
