Exclusive Shots From Archives of Yerevan history

The oldest filmstrip about Yerevan was made in 1923. It was a black and white silent movie showing celebration of May 1 holiday in Yerevan.
More than 400 thousand films, photos and records are kept in the National Archive of Armenia and most of them are about Yerevan.
Documentaries kept in the archive were made in the period from the 1930s to the 1960s. They are completed documentary films, more than 100 newsreels. These reels give important information about the history of the city.
In the 1930s, large-scale construction activities were going on Yerevan. And cameras were working in parallel with the development of the capital city. This way were born such filmstrips as “The construction of Yerevan”, “Building of Yerevan”.
In the films of the Soviet period we can see the routine of Yerevan, feel its rhythm, meet the townspeople and various events.
The celebration of Erebuni-Yerevan-2750 is of particular value. The premier of Edgar Hovhannisyan’s song together with 2750 kids is recorded as well.
The original filmstrips of not only documentaries but also feature films made in Armenia are preserved in the National Archive. Thousands of photo documents depicting the history of Yerevan are preserved with care in the wooden drawers: most important events, famous and unknown people.
Serious everyday work is done to preserve all this heritage for generations.
Many of photo, phono and cinema documents have been digitized for 10 years.
