Ankara Says Sweden, Finland Won’t Join NATO Until They Meet Turkish Demands

The accession to NATO by Sweden and Finland won’t continue until Turkish demands are met, Ibrahim Kalin, the spokesman for the Turkish president, said at a news conference in Ankara following talks between Turkey and the delegations of Sweden and Finland, TASS reports. 

"NATO is a security alliance, so the most fundamental issue of this alliance is that security concerns to be addressed equally and fairly for all members of the alliance," he said. "We want concrete measures to be taken against terrorist organizations. We want clear steps to be taken to address Turkey's security concerns."

"If the requirements that I have indicated are not met, this process [of Sweden and Finland joining NATO] can’t continue," he went on to say.
