Armenia President, World Tourism Organization Chief Exchange Views on Overcoming Pandemic-caused Challenges
President Vahagn Khachaturyan on Thursday received a delegation, led by Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which has arrived in Armenia to attend the 67th Meeting- in Yerevan-of the UNWTO Commission for Europe, NEWS.am reports.
Khachaturyan noted that the relations between Armenia and the UNWTO are developing steadily. The President stressed that tourism is a very important sector for Armenia and the government has declared it one of the priority spheres of economic development.
The UNWTO Secretary General, in turn, highlighted the fact that the first meeting of this organization after the COVID-19 pandemic is being held in Yerevan, and he congratulated Armenia on being elected a member of the UNWTO Executive Council for the period 2021-2025, which will contribute to improving Armenia's position and raise the country's recognition in Europe.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on overcoming a number of pandemic-caused challenges in tourism, developing new guidelines for the development of this sector, and further enriching the cooperation agenda.
It was emphasized that Armenia is making great efforts for the development of digital technologies, education, science, and innovations, which will contribute to increasing and strengthening the potential of the tourism sector.
