All Countries May Freely Buy Food Products, Fertilizers from Russia: Borrell
Anyone who wants to buy Russian food products and fertilizers can do so without any obstacles, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said upon arriving at a meeting of EU top diplomats in Luxembourg on Monday, TASS reports.
He also stressed that the EU fully supports "the United Nations’ efforts to deblock the [grain] exports from Ukraine" within the framework of consultations between Russia, Turkey and Ukraine. "And I hope <…> that the United Nations will at the end reach an agreement," he said.
Borrell yet again stressed Brussels’ position that "it is not the European sanctions which are creating this crisis."
"Our sanctions do not target food, do not target fertilizers. Anybody that wants to buy Russian food and fertilizers, they can do it - no obstacles," he stated without mentioning that the restrictions imposed by the EU have disrupted logistics chains worldwide which had already been undermined by the coronavirus pandemic and created problems for payments for grain since Russia’s key banks had been disconnected from the SWIFT international payment system. Borrell also did not mention that among the important causes of growing grain prices were price hikes in the sphere of energy products and fertilizers caused by the sanctions introduced by the EU.
